The NFL has finished it’s investigation into the situation that arose at a birthday party for Mike Vick. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says “there’s no change to his playing status.”, which means he’s cleared to play in the upcoming season.

A few months back Mike Vick decided to throw himself a party at a nightclub to celebrate his 30th birthday. The party was welcome to the public. Several minutes after Vick left the party, his former partner in his dog-fighting ring Quanis Phillips, was shot in the leg outside the party. An investigation ensued, obviously, as towhether Vick had anything to do with the shooting. As it turns out, he didn’t.

But you still have to shake your head at the sheer stupidity of Vick. Throwing yourself a public party where anyone can attend is one thing for the normal person, but not for a person in Vicks situation. One would think that trying to stay out of trouble and avoiding situations like the one he got himself into would be common sense. But I think Mike Vick has shown that he lacks a lot of common sense, which isn’t always that common.

This should be an interesting year for Vick, as well as the Eagles. With McNabb gone, Kevin Kolb will be taking the starting quarterback spot. But if Kolb fails to make anything happen, don’t be surprised to see Vick come in and replace him. Either way, I would expect to see a little more of Mike Vick on the playing field, if for any other reason, to try and increase any potential trade value he has.

Just based on the amount of players alone, the Eagles had a great draft. They moved up in the first round to get Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham. This kid is going to be a special player. He’s a little undersized but makes up for it with his motor, aggressiveness and all the other tools he possesses. If he was a few inches taller he would have gone in the top 5 for sure. They added a legitimate playmaker in free safety Nathaniel Allen. The South Florida product isn’t the physical safety the Eagles need, but his skills made this pick a no brainer.

The defensive line continued to get stronger with the additions of Washington end Daniel Te’o-Nesheim (good luck with that one Merrill Reese), tackle Jeff Owens from Georgia and end Ricky Sapp from Clemson. Sapp was a real steal in the 5th round for Philly. He has good edge rushing abilities and gives them excellent depth. More help for the front seven came with the drafting of linebackers Keenan Clayton from Oklahoma and Jamar Chaney from Mississippi State. The Eagles needed help at the position and these two should help. They also added a few more players to the secondary. Corner Trevard Lindley from Kentucky and strong safety Kurt Coleman from Ohio State will both bring some healthy competition.

They were able to grab LSU running back Charles Scott who is a thumper ad could provide a nice change of pace. Quarterback Mike Kafka from Northwestern could turn into a nice quarterback and fits really well into their system. The real gem for Philly could be the drafting of Florida receiver Riley Cooper. He’s got all the tools to be a quality receiver in the mold of an Ed McCaffrey, maybe not as physical but has more big play potential. If Kevin Kolb works out at quarterback for them I could see the Eagles near the top of the NFC next year.

Last night Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins in return for the 37th pick in this years draft and a 3rd or 4th round pick in next years draft. There has been lots of talk over the past couple of weeks the the Eagles were looking to trade McNabb, but I don’t think anyone expected him to wind up in Washington.

When I first saw this trade I thought it was a good deal for both sides, and I suppose I still do. But the more I think about it the more I start thinking about how it’s actually quite strange.

I understand the Eagles perspective on trading him. Philly drafted Kolb a few years ago and it was thought at some point he would take over the starting role. McNabb new this was coming and felt he had a few more years left to be productive. Both sides treated the situation with class and McNabb got his wish to be traded. Now the Eagles can start the Kolb era.

I know there are some people who think Vick will get a shot to be a starter, and he will. But he won’t be their starting quarterback. Mike Vick will never be a starting quarterback, he’s just not good enough.

Where things get a little clouded for me is how the Redskins look at this deal. As in like what are they trying to do in Washington. Colt Brennan, Jason Camplbell and now Donovan McNabb. Sure everyone will have a chance to compete for the starting job but it’s just lip service. McNabb will be the starter, they didn’t bring him in to ride the pine.

So does this mean the Redskins actually think they can be competitive in the division, one of the toughest in football? Or does Daniel Snyder think they can be competitive? I know Shanahan was brought in and told he has full control, but this looks to me like Snyder was pushing this one. It’s almost like a desperation move. Mcnabb has a few years left and people thought he could still do it in Philly. But this isn’t Philly, this is a shit house team that has a bunch of talent that doesn’t, and may never, know how to play team football.

Maybe this will work out for the Redskins, but I doubt it. I thought if McNabb wanted a shot at one more Super Bowl that he should have gone to a contender, like the Vikings. Too bad the Redskins are not a contender.

And one more thing to think about: the Eagles talked about how great McNabb was for them but this trade shows you what the Eagles think of his future and the Redskins franchise. If Philly thought they could do it with McNabb they would have kept him. If Philly thought the Redskins were going to be contenders they wouldn’t have traded him. And if Philly thought McNabb was going to put the Redskins in a position to compete for the division they would have never traded him. Just something to think about.

There has been a lot of talk recently about the Philadelphia Eagles possibly looking to trade Donovan McNabb. They have a young Kevin Kolb waiting in the wings and they also have some guy named Mike Vick on their roster as well. So I guess the Eagles are looking at a changing of the guard.

There are very few franchise quarterbacks in the NFL right now, maybe a little more than a handful. Donovan can still fall into that category. He’s got a few years left in the tank and can probably be a really good investment for a team.

As it stands right now the Raiders seem to be the team that is gaining the most attention in the race for McNabb. Anyone who doesn’t think he can help the Raiders needs to give their head a shake. How could he possibly make the Raiders any worse right now?

The biggest problem, pun intended, for the Raiders is JaMarcus Russell. They shelled out $72 million for this guy people claim is a quarterback. Talk about a financial burden. The only thing Russell seems to care about so far in his career is being first in line at the buffet table.

But you still have to give the guy a chance to make something of himself besides the embarrassment to the league he’s been so far. Bringing in McNabb makes sense. If you can get him to be a mentor for JaMarcus maybe things will change. It would be a last ditch effort to try and salvage anything you can from JaMarcus, and they might as well since they’re so financially wrapped with this guy.

Whatever the Raiders want to do with JaMarcus shouldn’t prevent them from bringing in McNabb. This team is so far gone right now they need all the help they can get.

I recently saw some video footage of a little bit of an event at the Eagles-49ers game on Sunday. What I saw completely floored me. Eagles fans were throwing snowballs at a few San Francisco fans in the audience.

I know what you’re thinking and I’m shocked too. Normally Eagles fans ooze with class and respect. I mean it’s one thing to throw beer bottles at Santa when he’s parading around at halftime annoying everyone. That shit gets real tired real fast. But snowballs at guests to your stadium?

While I’m still at a loss of words as to why anyone would want to paint a nasty picture of Eagles fans I’d like to remind those 49ers fans to stop thinking that they got disrespected. It’s not like they were throwing glass bottles at you. Beer comes in plastic bottles now and you can THANK Eagle fans for that one.

Instead of people always trying to make Eagles fans look bad they should realize that their just really passionate. These are fans that expect perfection. If the Eagles don’t score on a drive don’t be surprised to hear boos. It’s the job of the offense to score points and if they don’t do their job they deserve to get booed.

So the next time you look down at an Eagles fan just remember this: How happy would you be if your team always came up just a little short? That’s what I thought.

Over the past 11 seasons it’s hard to think of a coach in the game that’s had the success Andy Reid has had. This morning the Eagles decided to keep Andy around for another 3 year, signing him to a contract extension.

In his 10 plus years with the Eagles, Reid has only had 2 losing seasons. He coached the Eagles to 4 straight NFC championship games from 2001-2004, reaching the Super Bowl in 2004. Reid is also the teams executive vice president of football operations.

This year the Eagles are guaranteed at least another .500+ season. Right now they’re tied with the Cowboys for the top spot in the NFC East, sitting at 8-4.

The Eagles got some good news earlier when coach Andy Reid said Brian Westbrook is cleared to play on Sunday. Westbrook suffered a concusion a few weeks ago in a Monday night win over the Washigton Redskins. Westbrook was forced to sit out this past Sundays game against the Giants.

The Eagles played well without him on Sunday taking out the Giants with relative ease, but having him back is definitely an added bonus. They are gonna need him this Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys come into Philadelphia. This is a big game for both teams. Dallas is already 0-1 in the division and Philly is 2-0. If Dallas loses this game it’s going to put them in a diifcult position to regain the lead from the Eagles in a tight NFC East race.

When the Eagles drafted DeSean Jackson in the 2nd round of the 2008 draft they had big visions for him. He was projected a top 10 receiver with the only real knock on him being that he was a little undersized at 5′10″ and 175 pounds. But his big play making ability is what caught everyones attention.

The kid that Jerry Rice called the “fastest receiver I’ve ever seen” is becoing a weapon for the Eagles and can be credited with helping them become an extremely explosive offense. Right now he is averaging 20.4 yards per reception, which is a monster number. And his 4 receiving touchdowns, combined with 1 more rushing and 1 more from a kickoff return, have helped the Eagles to a 5-2 record atop the NFC East.

Six other receivers were taken ahead of Jackson in the draft. I can guarantee those 6 teams are kicking themselves now for passing up on a guy who is turning into one of the most explosive offensive players in league.

After Sundays big win against the Atlanta Falcons the Cowboys got more good news. On Monday the team locked in pass rushing demon DeMarcus Ware through the 2015 season, which is big because both sides have been trying to hammer out a deal for a while now. This should provide a little more sense of security knowing their best player is around for the long term.

This signing along with the emergence of playmakers like Miles Austin, Tashard Choice and Felix Jones has Dallas positioned well. This is the time of year where teams want to start hitting their stride and Dallas seems like they’re doing just that. If they can get Roy Williams and Marion Barber back and fully healthy they are going to be a tough out late in the season. Miles Austin has been another boost of confidence for the team, and more importantly Tony Romo. This team definitely flies the way Tony does and Austin is giving Romo that home run threat in the passing game. This is something they’ve been missing since they got it at times from Terrell Owens

Although they are 0 and 1 in the division, there is lots of football yet to be played. Washington made Philadelphia look a little better than where their at right now and the Giants are having their struggles. If Dallas can keep up the level of performance it may allow them to pull ahead of the pack a little in the NFC East. And in an ultra competitive division, that could make the difference.
