The Kansas City Chiefs had something they haven’t had in quite some time, and that’s a fairly good draft. They got things rolling with the addition of the top defensive back in the draft, Eric Berry out of Tennessee. He’s a strong safety with corner cover skills that will dramatically help the Chiefs defense. New d-coordinator Romeo Crennel will be able to devise schemes based around the skill of this dynamic player.

Todd Haley added a weapon by drafting Mississippi running back Dexter McCluster. He’s undersized by NFL standards but that won’t stop him. He’s a playmaker with amazing speed and quickness and he’ll find a role on that offense pretty quick. Continuing to revamp the secondary, they brought in Javier Arenas from Alabama. The cornerback excelled in Nick Sabans defense for the Tide, as well as having a big role in the return game. Adding SEC players to your roster is always a good thing. Illinois guard Jon Asamoah seemed to just fall into Kansas Citys lap in the third round. The Chiefs held off on adding to their line so they were more than happy to add him, and he should compete for time immediately. They were also able to add tight end Tony Moeaki from Iowa, who is a solid pass blocker and should help set the edge for Jamaal Charles and McCluster in rushing situations.

They added a another smart, instinctive player to their safety group with Kendrick Lewis from Mississippi. With the defense switching to a 3-4 scheme under Crennel, defensive end Cameron Sheffield from Troy was brought in with hopes of developing into a solid pass rusher. The Chiefs are truly in limbo with their identity, but these are the right kind of steps to help change all that.

So the Chiefs have taken another step towards their ultimate goal of becoming the Kansas City Patriots. According to team and league sources Charlie Weis will be announced as the teams new offensive coordinator.

Weis was let go of his duties as Notre Dame head coach after never getting the job done. Todd Haley served as the teams offensive coordinator this past season.

When Weis was in New England he helped the Patriots win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. He is also said to have had a large impact on the development of Tom Brady.

Whether the Chiefs start to turn things around next year remains to be seen. One thing that is certain though is the stress Kansas City fans will go through trying to figure out what the hell Weis is doing. His play calling in New England was very unpredictable to say the least, but that seemed to have worked well.

Now there is even talk of bringing in Romeo Crennel as the teams new defensive coordinator. No surprises there when you look at what the Chiefs are trying to do. The one thing they’re missing though if they want to be the Patriots is Bill Belichick. You can try and copy everything they do, you could even change your team colors to blue and silver. But what makes the Patriots the Patriots is Belichick, and no person or team can replicate him.

Well the Kansas City Chiefs have had enough of Larry Johnson and all the troubles that swirl around him. Word on the street is the Chiefs are going to release him. Johnson is set to return to the Chiefs facilities today after serving his one game suspension.

As of right now that’s all I have on this but I’m sure there will be more. I must say I feel quite badly for Larry, it couldn’t have happened to a more professional guy….(that is sarcasm people).

If you may have not already heard, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has been barred from practicing with the team or participating in team activities earlier today. This is a result of Johnsons recent remarks on Twitter about his head coach Todd Haley, as well as the use of a “gay slur” while addressing the media in the locker room.

This isn’t the first time Johnson has acted up or caused a scene. He threatened to sit out training camp prior to the 2007 season, in which he later received a hefty contract extension. In 2008 he complained about the number of carries he was getting. During that season he was suspended for a game by his team, then he was benched and then Roger Goodell suspended him for another game.

There is no denying the mans talent, even though he hasn’t seen the same productivity that caught everyones attention in ‘05 and ‘06. When he’s playing well he’s one of the best backs in the league. I think what needs to be questioned is his ability to deal with adversity. He is an obvious physical specimen, but his approach to the business side of things seems to be quite childish. He never seems to be satisfied with his situation, yet he keeps making it more difficult on himself by acting up.

Part of your responsibility when you’re hired by an employer, and making big bucks, is to shut up and do what your told. Larry needs to learn this. Larry also needs to learn that the league is becoming flooded with talent at the running back position, and that a lot of teams are choosing to rotate them. I can’t think of too many teams that would be willing to absorb his contract and have him split carries.
