The Jaguars organization could be one of the most troubled in the league. Poor ownership, poor coaching and poor ticket sales make it seem like they’ll be the L.A. Jaguars before you know it. Their first pick in the draft didn’t do anything to change the perception. The team drafted Tyson Alualu, the defensive end from California. This is a good pick, but they probably could have traded down and still got him. Maybe no one was willing to trade with them, but if there were teams willing this was a poor choice for the Jags.

They weren’t done the work on their defensive line. The grabbed tackle D’Anthony Smith from Louisiana Tech. He’s a big body who can help plug the middle on a Jags line that has been depleted over the past few seasons. Throw in defensive end Larry Hart from Central Arkansas, and 6′6″ mammoth Austen Lane from Murray State and Jacksonville could have some decent competition for the line. They picked up Southern Illinois running back Deji Karim who gives them needed depth at the position. He should be able to lighten the load for MJD.

They also drafted special teamer Scotty McGee from James Madison who has incredible speed and quickness and should help their struggling return game. The Jags didn’t do anything to convince people that they are turning things around. This team could be L.A. bound at the end of next season.

So I guess the Jaguars are trying to make me look bad. Turns out Jack Del Rio isn’t going to USC. He will remain the Jaguars head coach after a constructive half-day meeting with owner Wayne Weaver.

Back peddling from his earlier remarks, Weaver now believes Del Rio is the guy that can take them to the promise land.

“I believe in Jack, that’s he’s the guy,” Weaver proclaimed. “After going through this process, Jack is the guy that can get us there. The fans have to have enough trust in me to believe that I’m making the right decision for the franchise.”

Sheesh, and I thought my ex girlfriend was fickle. Anyways Del Rios job is safe, at least for another year. But is Weaver really bang on with his thoughts. I mean, they are in his mind but looking at it from a neutral perspective you have to wonder.

Weaver has stated he bases their recent struggles on a series of first round draft busts and poor free agent signings. Ummmm….. am I missing something here? Del Rio is the guy and isn’t the problem but the first round draft picks and free agents that HE signed are? That’s kind of weird. So who is responsible?

“Over the past seven years, we’ve had our ups and down and we’ve been an average Football team,” Weaver said. “We’ve had some good seasons, but if you look at the body of work, we’ve been average. … Had we hit on two or three of those draft choices, we’d be a different football team than we are today. I have to accept responsibility for that.”

Okay, I give up. There seems to be a little confusion in Jacksonville right now, but they’ve got the whole offseason to figure it out. Oh yea, and Jacksonville, good luck. Houston Indy and Tennessee are all better teams. You guys can go to the playoffs next year, but you’re going to have to buy your ticket.

It looks like Jack Del Rios days as head coach for the Jaguars may be coming to an end. There has been a lot of talk floating around that Del Rio will replace Pete Carroll as the head coach for the USC Trojans. The only problem, he’s still due $15 million in salary.

To say the Jaguars have been a disappointment over the pst two years would be an understatement. After losing to the Patriots in the 2007 AFC divisional game there was talk that the Jaguars were going to be one of the top teams in the league the following year. They signed David Garrard to a big multi year contract and things were looking pretty good.

Well that was two years ago and things aren’t looking so hot anymore. Since they lost to the Patriots they’ve followed it up with a 5-11 season and this past year they finished 7-9. Not exactly where people had predicted them to be.

So Del Rio is the guy people are looking at right now and for good reason. It’s not like the Jaguars are lacking talent. They’ve just plain underperformed and someone has to take the blame, as it goes in the world of the NFL.

People are saying Wayne Weaver, the Jags owner, isn’t quite a Del Rio fan anymore. He’s not happy with, among other things, the way Del Rio treats the players or his work ethic. Those are kinda important when you’re a head coach.

There’s also the rumor that the Jags will possibly be the team destined for L.A. and if that’s the case, the team may want to hire a more reputable head coach. It’s a good marketing move. There’s the saying always put your best foot forward, well Del Rio is that foot with a dirty sock and a hole on the big toe.

So this situation will get real interesting over the weeks to come. There could be some tell tale signs for the future of the franchise and not just Del Rio. When it’s all said and done the Jaguars and Del Rio may be on their way to Cali, just not on the same plane.

Okay so the headline is a little bit of a stretch but the NFL may consider seeing what Maurice Jones Drew was smoking after his recent comments reported by the Florida Times-Union. When asked who the best team in the league is MJD responded confidenlty “I think the Jaguars are”. Seriously.

I have no problem with Maurice being confident with his team, but there is a fine line between confidence and blind faith. The Jags go into Sundays game against Tennessee sitting at 3 and 3 and fresh off a bye. While they’re not a basement dweller they certainly don’t belong in any kind of talk about which teams that are playing the best right now. I actually don’t know if I like their chances all that much against a Titans team that is gonna have something to prove on Sunday. And I really don’t know if I like their chances if Maurices confidence echoes through the locker room. Maybe that’s the Jaguars problem, they think they’re better than they actually are.

Or maybe Jones-Drew is right. Teams that are at the top right now may not be there come playoff time. And teams that nobody thought would be there might show up. The Jaguars truly do have a talented roster and Jack Del Rio has shown in the past he can get his team ready to play and show up on Sundays. So it’s possible Jacksonville is in an advantageous position. When they come out and say they’re the best team in the league guys like me laugh. That could be all the motivation they need. I guess we’ll have to wait and see come February, when the best team in the league actually proves it.
