The Lions would like to continue their climb out of hilarity to respectability. Unfortunately they only had 6 picks to help their team. Fortunately the used one of them on Nebraska stud Ndamukong Suh. This kid is a monster and will anchor the line for Detroit. There’s no doubt in my mind this guy will have an impact for them right away.

In a move that seemed a little strange the Lions jumped up a few spots to grab Cal running back Jahvid Best. He’s a good pick and should lighten the load for Kevin Smith, but I wonder if he would have still been there had the Lions not traded from 34 down to 30. One real area of weakness with the Lions, besides everywhere, is in the secondary. But they were able to land Starship Lion, Iowa product Amari Spievey. He’s a physical corner with serious ball hawking abilities and should be able to contribute at some point during the season. They were able to add a big body to their offensive line with Jason Fox. The 6′7″ tackle out of Miami is a little raw but may eventually turn into a starter. To go with Suh they added Willie Young from NC State, who could provide some edge rushing abilities if nothing else.

Once again Mr. Irrelevant falls to Detroit. This year it’s Receiver Tim Toone out of Weber State who the Lions hope will turn out to be more like Al Toon. The Lions first three picks should be able to come in and contribute right away, if not at some point during the season. But don’t expect the good times to start rolling in Detroit quite yet.

This is really big for the Lions. They’ve got both their young stars on display today. This could be the national spotlight both these guys need to show the world what they’re all about.

I think the Lions are going to play the Packers tough today. It would be great to see them pull off the upset. They need their big players to step up and play big. If that happens the world will get to see Megatron and everything he’s capable of!

There’s been some talk recently about kicking the Lions off Thanksgiving Thursday because they suck. Yea they suck but should they be punished for it?

This is the Lions 70th Thanksgiving day game, that’s a pretty good streak. They recently announced they sold out Ford Field for the annual game.

The bottom line is it doesn’t matter who you play on Thursday people will watch it. It’s not like your going to have a family huddled around the tv watching Judge Judy while the smell of turkey fills the room.

Dallas and Detroit are fixtures on Thanksgiving Thursdays and the NFL should respect that tradition. Besides, do you think if the Cowboys stunk that the NFL would want to kick them off Thanksgiving?

Well their head coach Jim Schwartz is. After jumping out to a 17-0 lead early in Seattle on Sunday, the Lions found a way to lose 32-20. Big surprise.

Right now Schwartz doesn’t know how to read his team, they’re 1-7 at the midway point and the only game that looks remotely winnable is when they host the Browns on Nov.22. Can’t wait for that one.

Come on though, how can anyone be surprised the Lions found a way to lose that game. They’ve been so good at finding ways to lose games I almost have some sort of weird respect for them. At least they’re good at something.

Without being too harsh though I think they just have to be more patient. They are a young football team with a first year head coach. Expectations shouldn’t be geared all that high, unless the expectations are for them to lose.

Calvin Johnson is set to make his way back into the lineup against the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. Johnson suffered a knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct.11, coach Jim Schwartz said at the time the injury wasn’t all that serious.

Great news for Lions fans though, and all the other NFL fans. If you haven’t had a chance to see Calvin play you’re missing out. I know what you’re saying but just because he plays for the Lions doesn’t mean he’s not worth watching. The Lions might not be but Megatron is.

I had an opportunity to watch this kid play in college and he is a very special player. I don’t think you can cover this guy, you just have to hope the ball is uncatchable. I know everyone loves Larry Fitzgerald and they think he’s the best in the game, and I think he’s amazing too. But I’m telling you Calvin Johnson is the best receiver in the NFL, the truth will eventually come out.
