Things In Cleveland Go From Bad To Worse

Last night the Cleveland Browns announced the termination of GM George Kokinis. While this move may seem like it’s an attempt to right the ship in Cleveland, it’s nothing more than a smokescreen put up by owner Randy Lerner. It is a good move because Kokinis was in way over his head from the start. But Lerner is basically spitting on the fans cupcakes and calling it icing. There’s some speculation they could bring in fomer Giants GM Ernie Accorsi, but I don’t see him wanting to join this 3 ring circus any time soon.

The Browns are the worst team in the NFL right now and I don’t think there’s going to be any bright spots for them this year. I’ve never seen a starting quarterback as inept as Derek Anderson. He’s completed less than 43% of his passes, averaging 4.4 yards per pass, he’s thrown 2 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. While he’s not getting major protection he’s not getting bullied either, he’s only been sacked 9 times in 6 games. Brady Quinn was benched because he was holding on to the ball for too long and not making decisions. Derek Anderson is the starter despite his habit of making stupid decsions and maybe not holding on to the ball long enough.

So a patch has been put on one of the many holes on the SS Browns and Lerner and company are hoping that it’s enough to keep it a float long enough so all the fans don’t jump ship. Knowing how passionate the Browns fans are I have a feeling they’ll stick it out with their team. I think Randy Lerner knows this too and if he doesn’t do anything more to improve his franchise it tells me all he cares about is the money those fans put in his wallet. That’s enough to make any true football fan want to puke.
