The Jacksonville-Del Rio marriage will last another year
So I guess the Jaguars are trying to make me look bad. Turns out Jack Del Rio isn’t going to USC. He will remain the Jaguars head coach after a constructive half-day meeting with owner Wayne Weaver.
Back peddling from his earlier remarks, Weaver now believes Del Rio is the guy that can take them to the promise land.
“I believe in Jack, that’s he’s the guy,” Weaver proclaimed. “After going through this process, Jack is the guy that can get us there. The fans have to have enough trust in me to believe that I’m making the right decision for the franchise.”
Sheesh, and I thought my ex girlfriend was fickle. Anyways Del Rios job is safe, at least for another year. But is Weaver really bang on with his thoughts. I mean, they are in his mind but looking at it from a neutral perspective you have to wonder.
Weaver has stated he bases their recent struggles on a series of first round draft busts and poor free agent signings. Ummmm….. am I missing something here? Del Rio is the guy and isn’t the problem but the first round draft picks and free agents that HE signed are? That’s kind of weird. So who is responsible?
“Over the past seven years, we’ve had our ups and down and we’ve been an average Football team,” Weaver said. “We’ve had some good seasons, but if you look at the body of work, we’ve been average. … Had we hit on two or three of those draft choices, we’d be a different football team than we are today. I have to accept responsibility for that.”
Okay, I give up. There seems to be a little confusion in Jacksonville right now, but they’ve got the whole offseason to figure it out. Oh yea, and Jacksonville, good luck. Houston Indy and Tennessee are all better teams. You guys can go to the playoffs next year, but you’re going to have to buy your ticket.
