Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft Review

Second year coach Raheem Morris is going to experience just how short leashes are these days for NFL coaches. The Bucs were able to use the third pick in the draft to select Gerald McCoy out of Oklahoma, a guy lots of people are comparing to Warren Sapp. McCoy and Suh were looked at as being a toss up, but that’s a stretch. McCoy will come in and have an impact for the Bucs, but he’s not at the same level as Suh.

Brian Price out of UCLA is another defensive tackle that should help bulk up Tampas front four. The real gem in the Buccaneers draft could be Arrelious Benn, a receiver out of Illinois. He’s an explosive, big play receiver and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him being the best out of the receivers in this years draft a few years down the road. Another late steal is cornerback Myron Lewis. The Vanderbilt product excels in man coverage and could be the replacement for Ronde Barber they need. They added another receiver with the speedy Mike Williams from Syracuse. If he can keep his off field problems in check he could help the team.

Needing to improve their horrible special teams play they brought in Hokies punter Brent Bowden who should help the Bucs with field position problems. Another Hokie was brought in, linebacker Cody Grimm as well as Florida State linebacker Dekoda Watson which brings some much needed depth at the position. Stanford product Erik Long was also added, a defensive end who brings more youth to the front 7. A solid draft for the Bucs should help them continue their climb out of the leagues basement.
