Larry Johnson cleared waivers at around 2PM Eastern time yesterday and no teams have jumped on him yet. Several teams have come forward saying they aren’t going to sign him either, but that can change in a hurry. So why aren’t teams jumping on him?
Well next year is an uncapped year. If Larry Johnson signs with someone this year it will probably only be until the end of this season. If he’s given the opportunity he will make the most of it I can assure you of that. So that would give him some pretty hefty leverage going into an uncapped season next year.
My guess is that when a team does sign him, which will undoubtedly be within the next few days, don’t be surprised to see him used sparingly. Assuming that he winds up playing for a contender this may be a good measure of how mature he really is and what he’s really after.
