Seahawks sniffing around Carroll
It’s been a pretty crazy few days for the Seattle Seahawks. First they fire Jim Mora after the team went 5-11 his first year as their head coach. Now it’s being reported that the Seahawks and USC coach Pete Carroll have reached an agreement for him to be their next head coach.
Not too many people saw this one coming, including myself. I mean it makes sense Carroll wants to get the eff out of Dodge considering USCs football team is probably going to get their pee pee smacked. This stems from the reggie Bush incident involving him possibly taking benefits from a sports agent while still enrolled at USC.
And I can’t really see any coach in their right mind passing up $35 million over 5 years, which are the numbers being tossed around right now. All this adds up to a Carroll-Seahawk marriage.
I really thought the Seahawks were going to be competitive this year. I’m not sure if I was high or drunk or both when I figured they would be but I was wrong. Long gone are the days of the Seahawks being given the division because Arizona, San Francisco and St. Louis were incompetent (well the Rams still are).
But the reality is the Seahawks aren’t a good team. They have minimal talent and their pay structure is completely out of whack. All the talk from Houshmandwhatever his name is, the guy who benefited from all the attention being paid to Ocho, about him and Hasselback lighting up the league… just talk.
Relying on a quarterback who is slightly above average, even when he plays the full 16 game schedule, behind an average line with average receivers and average running backs will get you exactly where the Seahawks are now. Don’t laugh Browns fans, the guy that built this mess is rolling up his sleeves to get busy with your teams roster.
Pete, buddy, you’re going to have your hands full. This isn’t college pal. These men can’t be motivated with the same rah rah bulllshit you used at SC. And you won’t be getting to pick from the cream of the crop to build your powerhouse like you did at SC. Although you can probably bank on having really high draft picks for the next five years. Carroll tried the NFL before and it didn’t work out for him. Somehow I doubt the second time will be the charm.
