Philadelphia Eagles Draft Review

Just based on the amount of players alone, the Eagles had a great draft. They moved up in the first round to get Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham. This kid is going to be a special player. He’s a little undersized but makes up for it with his motor, aggressiveness and all the other tools he possesses. If he was a few inches taller he would have gone in the top 5 for sure. They added a legitimate playmaker in free safety Nathaniel Allen. The South Florida product isn’t the physical safety the Eagles need, but his skills made this pick a no brainer.

The defensive line continued to get stronger with the additions of Washington end Daniel Te’o-Nesheim (good luck with that one Merrill Reese), tackle Jeff Owens from Georgia and end Ricky Sapp from Clemson. Sapp was a real steal in the 5th round for Philly. He has good edge rushing abilities and gives them excellent depth. More help for the front seven came with the drafting of linebackers Keenan Clayton from Oklahoma and Jamar Chaney from Mississippi State. The Eagles needed help at the position and these two should help. They also added a few more players to the secondary. Corner Trevard Lindley from Kentucky and strong safety Kurt Coleman from Ohio State will both bring some healthy competition.

They were able to grab LSU running back Charles Scott who is a thumper ad could provide a nice change of pace. Quarterback Mike Kafka from Northwestern could turn into a nice quarterback and fits really well into their system. The real gem for Philly could be the drafting of Florida receiver Riley Cooper. He’s got all the tools to be a quality receiver in the mold of an Ed McCaffrey, maybe not as physical but has more big play potential. If Kevin Kolb works out at quarterback for them I could see the Eagles near the top of the NFC next year.
