Is it Time for Change in Carolina?
The Carolina Panthers have won 3 of their last 4 games after opening the season with three straight losses. However those wins have come against Washington, Tampa Bay and a somewhat impressive win against Arizona last week. Nothing to brag about but a win is a win.
As of right now the Panthers are 3-4. It’s still early but they need to keep winning, the NFC is fairly tight right now and it doesn’t seem like anything less than 10-6 will get you into the playoffs. That puts them in a position that allows for a slim margin of error. So let’s say Carolina doesn’t make it, where does that put John Fox?
Fox led the Panthers to the Super Bowl in his second season as their head coach, losing to New England on a last second field goal in one of the most classic Super Bowls ever. But since then Fox has led the Panthers to the playoffs only two other times and seems to habitually underachieve.
Right now their biggest problem seems to be quarterback. At the beginning of the year the team showed Delhomme some love signing him to a fat 5-year contract extension. Fox is the guy that has shown loyalty to Delhomme his whole time in Carolina.
It’s going to be hard for Carolina to impress anyone this year. It just doesn’t seem like they’re capable of doing it. With a fairly solid pass rush and secondary, topped off with a stellar run game, the Panthers seem like all they need is a fresh new start and a fire under their ass. Doesn’t Bill Cowher live in Cariolina?
