Colts slip past Patriots in another classic game
Last nights game between the Patriots and the Colts was another classic. This time the game will be remembered for something not usually associated with either of these two teams. Poor coaching.
Belichicks decision to go for it on 4th and 2 is what I like to call rolling the dice. The fact that they didn’t pick it up is what I like to call shitting the bed. When I saw them line up to go for it I thought okay maybe they’re just going to try and pull Indy off sides with a hard count. When they snapped the ball I was in complete shock. Giving Indy the ball on the Patriots 29 yard line with two minutes left is essentially suicide.
When the Patriots gave the ball up on downs I thought they would at least just let the Colts score and have a little more than 90 seconds to go try set up for a field goal. But they actually tried to stop them from getting in the end zone, which is something they had problems with in the second half. The Patriots pass defense crumbled in the 4th quarter and Manning made them pay. The last three touchdowns the Colts scored fast taking roughly no more than 2 minutes on each drive.
The Colts now are the frontrunners for the number 1 seed in the AFC and it looks like they won’t be caught. The Patriots are still in good shape but with the Bengals winning a close one against Pittsburgh their chances at a first round bye are slipping away.
New England spent most of the game outplaying Indianapolis. But at the end of the game the only thing that matters is the final score. I have a feeling these two teams will meet again this year.
