Tennessee Titans Draft Review

The Titans want to keep up the momentum they finished the season with last year and proved they’re more talented than people were giving them credit for. With the loss of Kyle Vanden Bosch Tennessee saw a need at defensive end. Derrick Morgan out of Georgia Tech will fill that void. He’s the total package at the end position and should help with both the run and pass defense. With Vince Young emerging the Titans drafted Southern Cal receiver Damian Williams. He’s got good speed and hands and could be a factor in the return game for them.

Keith Bulluck was another veteran lost to free agency so linebacker was a bit of a concern. Linebacker Rennie Curran from Georgia is a bit undersized, but has some intangibles that Jeff Fisher loves. The secondary was in need of some talent and got it. UCLA cornerback Alterraun Verner, Utah corner Robert Johnson and FSU strong safety Myron Rolle should all contribute. Rolle is the real question mark in most peoples minds. There’s a good chance he’ll be the smartest player on the field at all times, and if he can prove he’s dedicated to football he will be a Pro Bowler for years to come. The backup quarterback position was a concern so they drafted Rusty Smith from Florida Atlantic. The Owls quarterback has all the physical traits and could develop well under Fisher.

They brought in one more target for Vince Young. Montana receiver Marc Mariani has some upside but looks to work his way onto the roster via special teams. They also added a little more bulk to the middle of their defense by drafting Brown defensive tackle David Howard. The Titans had a solid draft. And with some quality coaching from Jeff Fisher it could look better and better every year.

Can the Titans upset the Colts?

A lot has changed for the Titans since their week 5 ass whooping at the hands of the Colts. Tennessee has ripped off 5 straight wins under the guidance of Vince Young and they seem to be playing more like last years Titans.

As for the Colts, it’s pretty much the same old story. The Colts are 11-0 and looking like, well, the Colts. So what makes anyone think the Titans can beat them.

Right now the Titans are playing the kind of football that is designed to beat the Colts. They’re running the ball well, Vince Young isn’t making mistakes, and the defense is playing smash mouth.

These are the kind of teams that can beat the Colts. Keeping Manning off the field with well balanced, error free drives. Playing aggressive on defense and getting in the quarterbacks face.

Tennessee is going to have to play their best game of the year to beat the Colts, but they can do it. If Chris Johnson can have a big day running the football and they can put pressure up the middle on Manning, they’ll have a really good chance of winning this game.

The Colts need to score early and take the run game away from the Titans. If theTitans are forced to play catch up and throw the ball, it could be trouble for them.

Vince Young is defining himself

I’m pretty sure everyone can agree now that replacing Kerry Collins with Vince Young was the right move for the Tennessee Titans. If you were able to catch the Titans-Cardinals game yesterday Vince proved the Titans made the right decision.

The game winning drive that went for 99 yards and a touchdown was nothing short of incredible. Vince guided the team down the field with great poise and converted three 4th downs, including the play that got them the touchdown.

That game winning drive may remind a lot of people about another game winning drive Vince Young had while he was still in college. It was that drive in the Rose Bowl against USC that moved Young to cult-like status with Texas fans and showed everyone watching that he was ready for the next level.

Now after a rocky start to his pro career Vince Young seems to have taken his game to another level. This is the Vince Young everyone has been waiting for, especially the Titans. Yesterdays game will be one he will remember for a long time and hopefully there’s a lot more of those ahead for him.
