If you’re a Denver fan, it’s hard no to think the Broncos had an amazing draft. Although lots of people may scoff at taking receiver Demaryius Thomas over Dez Bryant, I think it was the right choice. The Georgia Tech wideout is tall and has great hands. He’s no Brandon Marshall but hey, who is? This is where things got real exciting for Bronco fans.

They were able to trade up with the Ravens to select Tim Tebow. Yea they traded for Brady Quinn, but Tebow is a bit of a project. If anything else they drafted him because of the type of teammate he is and the quality of person he is. Character guys don’t come around like this very often, especially ones with such huge potential. Oh yea, and he set a rookie jersey sale record, so it looks like the plan is already working. They did a lot of work to their offensive line. They took Zane Beadles, the tackle out of Utah, and two centers, J.D Walton from Baylor and Eric Olsen from Notre Dame. All three have similar characteristics that coach McDaniels likes in offensive lineman, they’re smart, athletic and versitile.

Eric Decker is another tall receiver drafted out of Minnesota. He’s a big target with great hands lots of potential. The Broncos seemed to pick positions in groups. They added a couple of cornerbacks in Perrish Cox from Oklahoma State and Syd’quan Thompson from Cal. Thompson is more of a risk because of his size, at 5′9″ he’s a little short, but he’s an aggressive player that likes to hit. They drafted Jammie Kirlew, a defensive end out of Indiana that will probably make the transition to linebacker. It was a solid draft for a Broncos team that looks to take a better run at the Chargers in the AFC West.

Denver has officially washed their hands of troubled wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Earlier this morning he was traded to the Miami Dolphins for two 2nd round draft picks. It’s looks like a fairly good deal for both sides.

Marshall is one of the leagues best receivers. He’s a mismatch for pretty much every defensive back. He has great size and speed, and he has excellent hands. So it’s surprising Denver would traded him with no other receiver that can replace his productivity.

But Marshall and Josh McDaniels have butted heads ever since the coach arrived in Denver. Both are immature, but since Pat Bowlen fired Mike Shanahan and replaced him with McDaniels it was pretty obvious who was going to get the boot.

With the Jets doing everything they can to have the best team on paper, the Dolphins felt in necessary to try to play catchup. This move definitely gives them more ammunition for their gimmick offense to compete for the AFC East title. It’s just a shame Marshall had to go to a team where he may catch more passes from a running back than a quarterback.

What has happened to the Denver Broncos? I’m pretty sure a few weeks ago they were supposed to be one of the best teams in the league. You can’t say the same right now.

Sundays embarrassment to the Chargers puts their losing streak at 4 and that, ladies and gentlemen, is the second longest in the league. The only team playing worse right now is, sorry it’s tough writing when you can’t stop laughing, the Browns. Their streak is at 5 games.

But wait! The Broncos may actually be worse right now. In the last 4 games the Browns have been outscored 115-46, while the Broncos have been outscored 117-37. That’s bad football no doubt.

The Broncos are a better team I don’t think there’s any question there. But the comparison makes you wonder. How can a team that played so well in their first 6 games play so horribly in their last 4.

This weeks game between the Giants is interesting. The Giants themselves just snapped a nasty losing skid and look like they may be back on track. If the Broncos want people to think they’re a playoff team then they have to win this game to make anyone believe it. If they can’t stop this nosedive now they’ll never pull out in time.

Well it seems like the Steelers have found a way to close out games. Last nights 28-10 win over the Broncos moved Pittsburgh to 6-2 and tied for first in the division with the Bengals.

More importantly last night for the Steelers was the fact that they were able to find a way to shut down the Broncos in the second half, something that has been troubling them all season. Up until this game it seemed as though Pittsburgh would jump out to a lead in the first half, only to let their opponents crawl back and make it close in the second half. Not last night though, they outscored the Broncos 21-7 in the second half.

Speaking of the Broncos, they seem to have come crashing down to Earth in a hurry. They’ve lost their last two games, being outscored 58-17. Should anyone be really surprised? I’m not taking anything away from the Broncos but it seems to be a trend every year. Some team comes out of the gate like gangbusters, then starts on a losing skid.

The Broncos are a good team, but we’ll see how good they are in the next few weeks. If the past two games are any indication, Denver fans may want to start scalping their Super Bowl tickets they bought after the Broncos beat the Patriots. As for the Steelers, they’ve got their swagger back. And they better think twice about trying to be an aggressive passing team. Mendenhall is looking like he’s going to be a big time player for them for a while. The way he ran last night, there’s no way you keep the ball out of his hands.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that cornerback Ty Law has signed with the Denver Broncos. Law hasen’t seen the field since 2008 when he was playing for the New York Jets.

This is an interesting move by Denver, but Law has a lot of experience. And providing he has some gas left in the tank he will be a good fit in the Broncos secondary. Whether he comes in and plays safety or cornerback will be interesting as well.

Law was one of the best one on one cover corners in his prime, a very physical and talented football player. With Brian Dawkins and Champ Bailey, Denver will have quite an old experienced secondary. Dawkins and Champ are actually showing they can still hack it. We’ll have to wait and see if Law can as well.

Monday nights game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos has all the makings of a great game. Pittsburgh is coming off a bye sitting at 5-2 while the Broncos suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.

Right now Pittsburgh is sitting in a tie for first place in the AFC North with the Cincinnati Bengals, and with the Bengals being 3-0 in the division right now and the Steelers at 1-1, this is a very important game for them. They can’t afford to lose any ground in the division.

Denver came out of the gates flying, starting the season off at 6-0. Last weeks loss to the Ravens sent them crashing back to Earth. But this is an extremely talanted and well-coached football team that has one of the leagues top defenses. I expect to see the Broncos bounce back with a good game this weekend.

The key in this game for the Steelers is to play a full 60 minutes of football. They’ve had their problems finishing off teams and with Denvers weapons on offense Pittsburgh needs make this a point of emphasis. With guys like Brandon Marshall, Knowshon Moreno and Eddie Royal, the Broncos can put up points quick.

If Denver can come out and play hard and keep this a close game going into the fourth quarter they have a good chance of winning. Last week they had a hard time gettng going on offense. They just couldn’t seem to find any rhythm against Baltimores defense, which isn’t all that uncommon. I’d look for them to try and get the short passing game going right away to help get that rhythm back.

These two teams match up fairly well and I think this game is going to go down to the wire. In the end though the Steelers find a way to close this one out. For what it’s worth I think the final will be 27-20 Pittsburgh.
